About INTEX Oman Forum

The energy-intensive industrialization has led to a surge in power consumption in Oman. In bringing the Oman 2030 Master plan to fruition, Oman has taken large strides in the areas of power generation capitalizing on the abundant renewable energy. Copious investments have been made recently in the power sector infrastructure development alone. At the GCC level, the countries collaboratively formed the joint Power Grid in a bid to develop and unify the distribution and transmission networks.

Along with its plans to integrate renewables in the energy mix, in a very interesting move, Oman will be the first in GCC to implement spot market for electricity trading in 2019! On the water front, it has already started implementing a nation-wide program that could see potable water and wastewater services combined and open up utility water to the private sector. These are exciting times for Oman in particular, with a lot of investors turning their eyes towards the Omani market, favorable policies by the policy-makers, technology advancements in the areas of power, water, and renewable energy. The forum is an avenue for industry stakeholders to meet under one roof and discuss challenges and opportunities in the energy and water sectors of the Sultanate.
